Belmont Academy Students Help Furry Friends at Lake City Humane Society

Reporting Dates: 10/22 – 10/26/18

Belmont Academy’s National Honors Society demonstrated devotion to their community when volunteering at  Lake City Humane Society on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

This is just one of the many philanthropic events for this group. Later this week, they are working with Belmont’s National Junior Honor Society to collect canned food at school to donate to  Gateway Food Bank, which feeds families in need. The food drive starts on Monday, October 29th and will end on November 9th.

Belmont Academy Charter School’s National Honor Society is organized by teacher, Laura Lashley.

“I absolutely love working with this group of students to prepare for college and work on community service hours,” said Lashley.

Mrs. Lashley also enjoys working with students in other leadership activities through her Student Government Association (SGA) and Chick-Fillet Leadership Academy groups.

“I’ve got my SGA students that are going to be a part of district two SGA this year in the state of Florida. We’ve got a lot of exciting opportunities to work with Columbia High School and Fort White High School as well as all of the surrounding schools in our area. I also have my Chick-Fillet Leadership Academy that works on community service projects for the school as well as Lake City,” said Lashley.

The Leadership students at Belmont Academy are also working to build connections and friendships on campus by organizing Belmont Academy’s annual bonfire event. This gathering is on Saturday, November 10th between 6 to 8 pm. The event is open for all 8th to 12th grade Belmont Academy students. There will be food, a DJ, photo booth and many fun activities!
