The cap collection project started at Belmont about 2 years ago when, then NHS president Alyssa Hopkins decided to bring it to the school. According to Annie Hopkins, 1st grade teacher at Belmont and sponsor of the program, this charity benefits the "K9s for Warriors" project, which is a charity that provides services to wounded veterans. Students collect hard plastic caps of all kinds, from water bottle lids to mayonnaise jar lids. The caps are taken to UF and are processed and recycled. The money made from the caps goes to purchase and train service dogs for wounded veterans as well as provide other mental and social services.
This is an on-going project, so students are encouraged to save and send in plastic caps. Belmont Academy would love to be able to do more for our veterans.
